Tutorials
The unique experience of the academic life of an undergraduate at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge remains the one-on-one weekly tutorial. The student is expected to spend a week reading, researching, analysing, and, eventually, writing a tutorial essay of about 2500 words which is then read to the tutor, and with whom it is then discussed for one hour. The student takes responsibility for the material presented and is accountable for the views expressed, and is expected to argue the case made. The tutorials are integrated with lectures, classes, and seminars.
Undergraduates are supervised by their tutor in the Hall. They will be
taught both by their subject tutor and by other tutors in the University
thus exposing them to a wide range of expertise.
