GIVING TO ST BENET'S

Conferences

The CalefactorySt Benet's is the ideal venue for a small conference. The building is a handsome Georgian house in St Giles, very close to the centre (3 minutes walk from Ashmolean Museum and the shopping-centre, three doors from The Eagle and Child, of C.S. Lewis fame), yet slightly withdrawn, which conveys an air of peace. (The windows facing out to the main road are double-glazed). Many of the rooms have been refurbished and redecorated, maintaining the dignity of the fine Georgian rooms. The special advantage of St Benet's is that the whole Conference is under one roof, so that delegates do not need to cover large distances, and have ample opportunity to get to know one another. They invariably comment on the welcoming atmosphere and excellent cuisine.

There are 11 study-bedrooms with ensuite or adjacent private facilities (10 can serve as double rooms) and 10 study-bedrooms with shared facilities. Some of the latter are small and less well furnished or soundproofed. All rooms have telephones and Ethernet-points.

The dining-room seats 50 at one long table, allowing a high standard of home-cooked food. For larger numbers a buffet of up to 100 can be provided.

The calefactory is an attractive sitting room with a modern upright piano, easy chairs and room for circulation. The room takes up to 20 seated as furnished, more with the use of additional chairs. The adjacent library seats up to 15 boardroom-style, and would take more for a lecture. There are two other rooms available for social events or informal meetings for about a dozen delegates. A photocopier, fax, and other normal facilities are available.

A talk being given in the Library

From the enclosed garden it is hard to realise that there is a city all round; there it is possible to relax, have coffee, play croquet undisturbed.

Residential conferences are possible only outside university term, but dinners and receptions can normally be arranged also during term.

Receptions, Day-Conferences are by arrangement, depending on facilities required.
