Academic Profile

After completing my studies in theology, German, and pedagogics at the Universities of Regensburg and Saarbrücken I took my PhD in theology at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago as a Fulbright Scholar. I have taught theology at Trinity College Dublin, the University of Lund, and the University of Glasgow prior to my present appointment as Master of St Benet’s Hall. I have been visiting lecturer in many universities in Europe, North America, and Asia.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in contemporary systematic theology, hermeneutics (philosophical, theological, and literary), theological method, and German literature. I am supervising doctoral students in theology.

Research Interests

In my research I am investigating the three theological virtues of love, hope, and faith, within the conditions of an ever more globalising and pluralistic religious and cultural context. Moreover, I continue my reflections on the conditions and methods of theological thinking in the church, society, and academy of today and examine the contributions which Christian theology might be able to make to the multidisciplinary study of the relational nature and vocation of the human person.
